Jacory Harris looking to get the swagger back for the Oklahoma game Saturday.

Welcome to your weekly ACC Football Mid-Week Hype Machine that hopefully bridges your week to the weekend with good reads…

  • 10/03/09  Virginia Cavaliers @ North Carolina Tar Heels / Raycom / 12:00 p.m. ET

Must-See Matchup: UVA simplified attack vs. UNC D

UVA trying to get back down to basics in the last days of Groh’s regime, but UNC has the defense to keep them to single digits.

Bringing The Noise: UVA Raycom blog says there’s nowhere to go but up(and I say duh). UNC not panicking after GT loss with personnel changes according to ACC Now. HD compares/contrasts hope for Maryland/Virginia and comes to the conclusion that UVA has more upside. Butch Davis drinking the kool-aid also.

Watch This Over…: Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, first, what the heck is up with those names–second, Lamar Odom? Seriously?

  • Virginia Tech Hokies @ Duke Blue Devils / 4LN360 / 12:00 p.m. ET

Must-See Matchup: VT coming off big win vs. opportunistic Blue Devils

This is the ACC, folks–Duke can win this game. They kept it close last season in Lane Stadium and would love to play spoiler.

Bringing The Noise: Duke trying to prepare for Hokies, but are really lacking at the RB position. Virginia-Pilot’s Kyle Tucker discussing Ryan Williams’ Heisman candidacy. Gobbler Country gives the lowdown on what could happen in this game. Virginia Tech, you are our only hope, bring us to the BCS Championship.

Watch This Over…: Project Runway, designing maternity clothes cannot be quite as exciting as Coach Cutcliffe.

  • Clemson Tigers @ Maryland Terrapins / 4LNU / 12:00 p.m. ET

Must-See Matchup: Clemson redzone offense vs. Maryland D

Clemson, in theory, should score like an NBA star…after a game, but if that is to happen, Clemson needs to learn to finish off drives.

Bringing The Noise: Dabo says they are improved as a team. One Tigers’ blog says the offense not so much as they are struggling all over the field. The Clemson tight ends are restless, but liking a more pro-TE play-calling so far. According to statman CUOrange, the Tigers are running 73% of the time on first down. Maryland just isn’t lucky according to Coach Friedgen. The unlucky Terps are looking to take out turnovers and penalties for wins.

Watch This Over…: Pennsylvania vs. Dartmouth(on the rogue Versus network), because the FCS is quite successful against us, but Clemson’s defense is worth the price of admission.

  • NC State Wolfpack @ Wake Forest Demon Deacons / ESPNU / 3:30 p.m. ET

Must-See Matchup: Wake’s rushing attack vs. NC State D

Wake Forest found something that worked with the running game in the second half of their battle with BC. NC State was less than impressive defensively against a quality opponent. Something has to give here and could be the difference in the game.

Bringing The Noise: Ken Tysiac says don’t play man-to-man against NC State and the mobile Wilson. Blogger So Dear, Wake Forest’s SB Nation, wants the no-huddle vs. NC State. NC State Raycom blog is wondering where the love is for Russell Wilson. The 3-1 start for NC State is encouraging to a program that had been starting slow under Tom O’Brien.

Watch This Over…: Washington vs. Notre Dame, this could be a 3 OT/100 combined point game while Washington/Notre Dame is just futile struggle to regain past glory.

  • Florida State Seminoles @ Boston College Eagles / ABC-4LN2-Gameplan / 3:30  p.m. ET

Must-See Matchup: BC QB Dave Shinskie vs. the sieve that is the FSU secondary

If he lights them up like he did to Wake at points last week, FSU is staring at 0-2 in the ACC and sub-.500 overall.

Bringing The Noise: The embattled Coach Bowden says this one is an important one. ScalpEm, and every other major FSU blog it seems, says give Jimbo Fisher the Prius. Paul Finebaum says he should have been gone several years ago. BC QB Dave Shinskie has held onto the job for the Eagles going into the FSU game.

Watch This Over…: NC State/Wake, FSU is Jekyll/Hyde and BC is everybody’s favorite team to ignore and get burned by–great combo for a great game.

  • Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets @ Mississippi State Bulldogs / CSS / 7:30 p.m. ET

Must-See Matchup: GT triple option spread flexbone thing vs. Cowbells

Hey, it’s on CSS, not like I’m gonna be able to watch it anyways. Jackets have a distinct advantage here, but cannot take them lightly after the Dogs performance against LSU.

Bringing The Noise: GT’s Raycom blog says don’t throw dirt on the Jackets yet. The AJC gives you what you need to know about the Bulldogs. GT kicking job is open after the UNC game(no truth to the rumor that the guys at From the Rumble Seat are trying out). Coach Johnson likes Saturdays. GT’s backup QB Jaybo Shaw is back(Nesbitt peering over shoulder).

Watch This Over…: iCarly, because there is an episode from 7-7:30, and you probably already watched it earlier this week.

  • Oklahoma Sooners @ Miami Hurricanes / ABC / 8:00 p.m. ET

Must-See Matchup: Whip-lash offense vs. OU’s stout defense

Oklahoma has allowed 14 points all season–this is not your daddy’s Big XII defense. Miami can have zero hangover from last week’s beatdown or a similar result will occur here.

Bringing The Noise: Miami/OU just a bit different from 2007. Despite this, Miami DC John Lovett is showing the game film to ready the Canes D. After last week, you would think Miami’s Harris would be down, but he is surprisingly upbeat coming into this week’s game.

Watch This Over…: Major League(and everything else), though more people will be watching the 80s movie at this time slot than actually at the game, Miami-Oklahoma could be a real boost for ACC street cred.

Thanks for reading and come on back for the Thursday Pick’Em Post!

Napier’s saving the first down passes for the “big” game….

  • NoleCC said,

I think we’re all going to be sorely disappointed with the ACC’s street cred after the OU / Miami game.

  • B_Rink said,

Probably saving them for the non-nasty weather, non-first road games for Parker IMO.

OU has been playing sick since the BYU game…gonna be tough for the Canes no doubt.
