Does Duke make it to Indy? Or do the Bears claw them? Here’s my view…
(1) Duke Blue Devils vs. (3) Baylor Bears, 5:15 (EST) on Sunday
Coaches Tourney Records: Duke-Coach K–74-21(10-1 in Elite 8); Baylor-Scott Drew–3-1(0-0 in Elite 8).
Devil That Has to Step up: F Jon Scheyer–Not changing this one from the last game, Scheyer hitting a few shots got the Duke offense kick-started to the comfortable win over Purdue in the second half. Baylor has size and they will bother Singler which means Scheyer and Smith have to be on.
Devils Have to Stop: G LaceDarius Dunn(6′4 196; 19.5 ppg, 4.8 rpg)–Dunn has been on fire with 26 and 23 points in the Bears’ last two games and eight 3-pointers made combined in them. LaceDarius hits over 40% from the perimeter and can get the key rebound too–Duke allows another 20 point game from Dunn and they are back in Durham until next season.
What I’m Thinking…: If you skipped over it, take a look at Coach K’s Elite 8 record above. Pretty impressive, huh? Duke should be on upset alert though if Scheyer continues to struggle, but Duke is the better team in players and coaching. Duke has to hit shots with the more up-tempo game that will come against Baylor or the Bears will jump all over them early. Both teams will play tight early, but the 3s start falling for the big three for the Blue Devils and Duke pulls away to a Final Four appearance.
Pick: Devils 76-72
Should be an excellent game…any last minute picks?
