In anticipation of this weekend’s ACC Football Kickoff, we pick an ACC Champion, project the bowls, and give a week-by-week rundown of the season…

The ACC Championship Game moves to Charlotte in 2010 - our pick for who wins below.

Intro: Over the last couple weeks, ACC Blogger has analyzed the 2010 ACC football season with our unique style of countdown – position by position grading, schedule analysis, and other factors weighed in. With the UNC investigation ongoing and Kyle Parker coming back, we did a little tweaking of picks/bowl projections, but here’s how we have the season goes down.

Projected ACC Standings/Champion (Our ACC preview in links)

Atlantic

Florida State Seminoles 7-1 (10-2 overall)
Boston College Eagles 6-2 (10-2 overall)
Clemson Tigers 6-2 (9-3 overall)
Maryland Terrapins 3-5 (5-7 overall)
NC State Wolfpack 2-6 (6-6 overall)
Wake Forest Demon Deacons 1-7 (3-9 overall)

Coastal

Virginia Tech Hokies 6-2 (9-3 overall)
Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 5-3 (9-3 overall)
Miami Hurricanes 5-3 (8-4 overall)
North Carolina Tar Heels 4-4 (8-4 overall)
Duke Blue Devils 2-6 (4-8 overall)
Virginia Cavaliers 1-7 (4-8 overall)

Championship Game (Charlotte, NC): Florida State Seminoles vs. the Virginia Tech Hokies, 7:45 ET, ESPN.

ACC Championship Pick: Florida State

  • The Why: Two of the better offenses of the ACC will faceoff in the Queen City’s first shot at the ACC Championship Game. In the battle of QBs, I’ll take FSU with Ponder, but by far, the Hokies have the advantage at running back. The determining factor in this one will be which defense can make the big stop to win the ACC. And I have little confidence in either at this point, but give me the team with the top-flight QB and solid scheme to win the ACC.
  • Score: 27-24 Noles

Bowl Projections!

Orange: Florida State
Chick-Fil-A: Clemson
Champ Sports: Virginia Tech
Sun Bowl: Georgia Tech
Meineke Car Care: Miami
Music City: Boston College
Independence: North Carolina
Eagle Bank: NC State Wolfpack

  • BCMike said,

10-2 and stuck with the Music City Bowl? Sounds about right for BC.

  • BCMike said,

Hey, actually you guys have BC going 11-1 (I like it!), but I suppose we would still lose the tie-breaker with FSU the way you have them beating BC and also going 6-1 in-conference.

  • Brandon Rink said,

    @BCMike

Oops, typo, I had them dropping a fluke game to Duke – not necessarily because I think Duke is the better team, but I think BC is a 6 ACC win team and those fluke losses happen. If it isn’t there, it might come with NC State, Clemson, or Virginia Tech.

    Thanks for the comment!

Ponder is better than Tyrod……uuummm, not really

Here’s the last time they met,

    @TMoney

2007, eh? Ponder had 18 pass attempts the entire season in 2007. In only nine games last season, Ponder threw for 400 yards and a TD more than Taylor. But don’t get me wrong, I respect Taylor as well – I just like Ponder a little more.

    Thanks for the comment/video, TMoney.

  • ACC Blitz said,

FSU is a ballsy pick to win it all. I can see it though. The Coastal is so strong, there’s really no telling who will come out from that side.

  • Thomas said,

As a VT fan this is hard to say but i think you are severely underestimating GT in your preseason projections. There defense has no where to go but up this year and they have LOTS of talent returning.
