New Year’s Eve provides a nice ACC bowl twin-bill…

12/31/11 – Georgia Tech (8-4) vs. Utah (7-5) / CBS / 2:00 ET

Must-See Matchup, GT offense vs. Utah Defense: Yellow Jackets’ rushing  attack v. Utah’s rush defense

Utah ranks 7th nationally in stopping the run, but haven’t been tested like they will on Saturday.

Must-See Matchup, Utah offense vs. GT Defense: Utah RB John White vs. GT D

White was one of a few bright spots on a Utes’ offensive unit that was less than spectacular this season, racking up 1,404 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground.

Watch 4: Yellow Jackets to control tempo of the game, eke out win

Georgia Tech’s sordid bowl history makes ya cautious on picking them here, especially in the Paul Johnson era (0-3), but this is a better matchup for them and they’ll end on a high note.

The Picks: Brandon Rink – GT 24-20; Griffin Wong – GT 31-21; J.J. Greenstein – GT 35-21

12/31/11 – Virginia (8-4) vs. Auburn (7-5) / ESPN / 7:30 ET

Must-See Matchup, Virginia offense vs. Auburn Defense: ‘Hoos rushing game vs. Tigers’ rush D

Virginia features a talented trio of backs against the SEC’s second-worst rush defense (194.75 yards per game).

Must-See Matchup, Auburn offense vs. Virginia Defense: Tigers vs. distractions

Their offensive coordinator is bailing in a curious move to Arkansas State – their top running back/playmaker Michael Dyer is suspended. It’s an interesting game mentally for Auburn Saturday night.

Watch 4: Auburn to play solid, but Virginia to play better

SEC/ACC matchups don’t usually swing the ACC’s way, but here, Auburn just isn’t what they were last season and Virginia is much improved. The Cavaliers will lose if they don’t have their A to B game, but they should show up.

The Picks: Brandon Rink – Virginia 27-23; J.J. Greenstein – Auburn 31-17; Griffin Wong – Virginia 21-10

(ACC Pick’em on the season: Brandon Rink – 71-30, J.J. Greenstein – 72-29, Griffin Wong – 75-26)
