ACC Bowls Breakdown ‘10-11: Fight Hunger

And here we are – a week into January and just topping off the bowl season in San Francisco…

2010-11 ACC Pick’Em (73-31 so far on the season)

• 01/09/11 – Boston College Eagles vs. Nevada Wolfpack / ESPN/ 9 ET

Must-See Matchup, BC offense vs. Nevada Defense: Montel Harris vs. Nevada rush D

Thanks to the long layoff, Harris is back from the knee injury to give the Eagles a 1-2 punch with Williams against the 23rd ranked rushing D at Nevada.

Must-See Matchup, Nevada offense vs. BC Defense: Colin Kaepernick & Nevada run vs. BC’s no. 1 rush D

Nevada’s pistol rushing attack is ranked 3rd nationally – averaging over 300 yards per game…BC is just allowing 80 yards – something has to give.

Watch 4: Nevada’s dynamic offense to be just too much

Nevada has something to prove in front of a mostly partisan crowd in San Francisco – BC will probably be BC and hang tough…Wolfpack just grind it out in the fourth quarter.

The Pick: Wolfpack 28 Eagles 20

ATS Section (45-45-1 to date)

Over .500 all rides on the final ACC game of the season – here goes…

• Nevada -7.5 vs. BC

Take to Bank %: 15%

BC allowed 10, 13, 16, 13, and 7 in their 5-game winning streak to the finish – Nevada scored 63, 35, 52, 34, and 35 in that stretch…so just what is the exchange rate from a top 15 team from the WAC to a 7-5 team from the ACC? Apparently, it’s just over a TD to Vegas and I think the Wolfpack just edge out the number.

Thoughts on the Fight Hunger – are actually watching it at 9 ET on a Sunday night?

As he's been all season, Tyrod Taylor is the key to win against Stanford.

At 1-26 against top 5s and the ACC at 2-10 in BCS bowls – here we go folks…

2010 ACC Pick’Em (72-31 so far on the season)

• 01/03/11 – Virginia Tech Hokies vs. Stanford Cardinal / ESPN/ 8:30 ET

Must-See Matchup,VT offense vs. Stanford Defense: Tyrod Taylor vs. Stanford front-7

If Taylor can post another monster game, the Hokies have a good shot.

Must-See Matchup, Stanford offense vs. VT Defense: Luck’s arm vs. VT secondary

The Cardinal have a balanced attack, and if the Hokies can keep Luck from picking them apart, they have a better shot at taking this one.

Watch 4: Stanford to show why they are a top 5 team

The Hokies are going to be there step for step, but I like Stanford’s strength across the board and how they played down the stretch.

We’re 4-3 straight up, but 3-4 ATS in ACC bowls…

• Virginia Tech +3.5 vs. Stanford

Take to Bank %: 10%

We’re hedging a bit here, but the Hokies can stick with Stanford and maybe even get that extra score to pull it off.

ACC and SEC Championship Game losers face-off in Atlanta…

2010 ACC Pick’Em (71-29 so far on the season)

• 12/31/10 – Florida State Seminoles vs. South Carolina Gamecocks / ESPN/ 7:30 ET

Must-See Matchup, FSU offense vs. SC Defense: FSU rushing attack vs. Gamecocks’ rush D

South Carolina is 9th nationally in stopping the run – FSU has a 3-headed monster at RB that has racked up 16 TDs.

Must-See Matchup, SC offense vs. FSU Defense: SC’s Jeffery and Gurley vs. FSU secondary

The Gamecocks have a couple studs at WR that can rip apart a secondary – the ‘Noles have improved back there, but aren’t exactly elite.

Watch 4: SC offense to be too much.

In almost their entire football history, the Gamecocks haven’t had “it” – the intangible (and talent) to reel off big win after big win – they have “it” this year and the ‘Noles aren’t quite there.

ATS Section (44-42-1 to date)

We’re 2-1 straight up, but 1-2 ATS in ACC bowls…

• Gamecocks and over 3 vs. FSU

Take to Bank %: 60%

There probably isn’t a game this ACC bowl season I’d like to be more wrong about, but any ACC team outside of Virginia Tech was going to have trouble in this particular game.
